Cinnamon Andrews
I was born in Spain but grew up and worked all round the world. Most of my jobs have revolved round the ocean: from being a Life Support Technician for saturation divers offshore to becoming a recreational dive instructor, from being a chef on a super yacht in the Med to managing a marine conservation organisation in Mexico. Eventually I fell in love when I sailed across the Atlantic, we ended up in Mallorca 15 years ago and never left. In a rather convoluted way my art sprung from my love of underwater photography which led to my painting with encaustic (layers of beeswax and dammar resin fused together with a flame) and oils mixed with cold wax medium. This enables me to create a lot of texture, depth and luminosity into my work. Although it is hard to see in photos of my work there are many different shades of blues and greens. This tends to reflect my experiences in, on and under the ocean and my continuing love for it in all weathers, a source of peace and wonder.
